Dr. Darja Zaviršek is a sociologist, full-time professor at the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Ljubljana, where she deals with studies of handicap, ethnicity and gender. She is the author of numerous books at home and abroad, including Women and Mental Health (1994); Hendikep kot kulturna travma (2000); Od krvi do skrbi: socialno starševstvo v globalnem svetu (2012); Notranje in mednarodne posvojitve (2012). Between 1999 and 2001 she was President of the association City of Women, from 2003 – 2007 she was a Deputy Dean at the Faculty of Social Work, and since 2008 she is President of the East European Association of the Schools of Social Work, and Head of the Chair of Social Justice and Inclusion Studies. She is also the Head of the Women's Section of the International Association of Schools of Social Work and honorary professor at the University of Applied Science Alice Salomon in Berlin.
