Born 1970, living and working in Vienna. Studies of philosophy, history, film and theatre studies in Vienna. Lecturer at the Institute of Art and Design/TU Vienna. Director of mosz records.
Schwentner's practice spans from her early abstract experimental films through sculptural and photographic (re)stagings of cinematic images and performances which are reflections on mechanics and mechanisms of staging and (re)enacting including production environments, on contemporary strategies of artistic organisation of film and on visual language.
Referring to cinema, its history and apparatus, mechanics and social aspect she questions authorship and gender roles as well as relationships between figures, cinematic and architectonic space. Regarding content, she negotiates the topic of desire mainly by (re)constructing images of women.
