Irena Tomažin's project is a 'one woman band' performance for “voice and two sound recorders in which she is weaving a story through the primary human sund device: voice. She has not gone through music school and her voice is not based on that kind of articulation and technical brilliance. On the contrary, the strength of her expression comes from powerlessness of articulation, her constant attempts at achievement which frequently take her from the sphere of meaning to the sphere of sound. Hers is a brittle voice, a voice that is wandering yet has huge emotional and expressive potential. At the same time, it is an alienate voice that becomes an acousmatic object as it is recorded to the sound recorder, alienated from corporeality; through the repetition of sound loops and manipulaton of tape, it reenters the substantive structure of the narrative. In the narrative structure of the (sound) story she uses, at times movingly and sometimes touchingly like a child, structures ranging from pop choruses and theatre narration to playful use of syllables and rhythm, deconstruction in the style of literary modernisms and avantgardes from the previous century and reduction of voice to wheezing, clicking and moaning. This allows her to have multiple voices speak at once, in harmony and cacophony…”
