The issue deals with the problems pertaining to the idea of the open work. The critical premise of the issue, edited by Bojana Cvejić, is a survey of the overdetermined and overrated attributes of openness, flexibility and mobility; of research, laboratory and processual orientation as modes of production; of perception/reception as regards spectatorship, community, networking and self-organisation as distributional frameworks. The result of this survey is a heterogeneous, open issue with a broad selection of texts, ranging from pieces written by artists to theoretical essays. The issue reveals a certain institutional saturation of the field; yet, it also opens up a space for new, affirmative approaches to the notion of the open work.
