Synopsis

The Judeo-Christian West is supposedly the “natural” realm of democracy and freedom, the Islamo-Arabic East sectarian, feudal, and “naturally” backward, incapable of democracy and bound to dictatorship. These violent dualistic myths of Occidental imperialism justify the use of military means by the government of the United States’ and its allies to serve their corporate capital interests. Occupation is the highest form of dictatorship as it subdues by means of direct war. The rights of self-determination, territory, survival and resistance are presumably what separate us from animals, culture from nature. The forced implementation of a war “culture” in Iraq does not restore individual dignity but degrades the human being. Resistance is a method of survival par excellence. Resistance restores human dignity.

The lecture will be modrated by Marta Gregorčič.
