Mierle Laderman Ukeles is an artist known for her feminist and service-oriented artwork. Her work has been shown and performed in a myriad of museums, art spaces and public spaces all over the world, it has been written and spoken about, as well as awarded in abundance. Since 1977 up until today, she has been an unsalaried Artist-in-Residence at the New York City Department of Sanitation.
